Fulham terraces, flats and the bathrooms that come with them
In a Fulham terrace the bathroom is usually in the rear addition over the kitchen, narrow, with the soil pipe on the outside wall and a timber floor. Many of these houses have also gained a loft en-suite or a downstairs WC, so the brief is often about making the main bathroom do less and do it better: a proper shower, storage and a layout that does not fight the window. In converted houses and mansion flats the questions are the shared stack, the lease and the building's rules on hours and deliveries. The newer riverside blocks have concrete floors and internal bathrooms where ventilation and the waste route are planned first.
A typical Fulham job
A rear-addition bathroom in a terrace off the Fulham Road, about 2.2 by 1.8 metres, with a bath under the window, a pedestal basin and a WC by the door. The usual answer is a walk-in shower where the bath was, a wall-hung WC and basin on a stud wall that hides the pipework and gives a shelf, a recessed niche in the shower and a mirror cabinet for storage. The floor comes up so the old pipework is replaced while it is accessible, and the room is tanked before tiling.

Conservation areas, skips and parking in Fulham
Hammersmith and Fulham Council lists conservation areas across Fulham, including Central Fulham, Fulham Park Gardens, Crabtree, Fulham Reach and Walham Green. A bathroom renovation is internal work, so conservation area status normally only matters if the project adds or changes a window, a rooflight or an external flue or vent; check the individual address rather than the neighbourhood name. In Hammersmith and Fulham a skip on the road needs a council licence applied for by the skip company, for a minimum of 14 days, and a parking suspension where it sits in a bay; renewals need at least five working days' notice. Allow around £15,000–£25,000 as a total budget for a complete bathroom renovation, covering labour, building materials, tiles, bathroom fittings and finishes.
